What does Certification from NSF mean?
The National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF) is an internationally recognized, not-for-profit, third-party testing organization that tests and certifies products to ensure they meet strict public health standards. NSF is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recognized organization that develops Drinking Water Treatment Unit testing standards (and much, much more) based upon the health standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Certified products are tested to verify that they meet certain quality and performance standard. The end result for the consumer is the assurance that a system will do what the literature says it will do. Certification by NSF assures you, the consumer, that:
Multipure Drinking Water Systems are tested under NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for Aesthetic Effects (taste, odor, and color), and NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for Health Effects (contaminants that are considered as established or potential health hazards). The Aquaversa, Aquaperform and Aqualuxe filter systems are tested under NSF/ANSI Standard 401 for emerging contaminants, which includes pharmaceuticals such as pain relievers and blood pressure medicine, hormones, herbicides and pesticides, and other chemicals used as flame retardants and detergents.
Multipure Drinking Water Systems are tested and certified to reduce particulate matter down to 0.5 micron, and to reduce chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor problems, certain pesticides, cysts, VOCs, trihalomethanes, MTBE and PCB.
